Steps We Are Taking

M615 - Management:  Supplier has not met the annual backflow method testing compliance ratio. This is a BPCCC treatment technique violation of Regulation 11

August 19, 2023

The Town of Walsh demonstrated that our backflow prevention and cross-construction control (BPCCC) method count for 2021 equaled the total amount of non-single-family-residential (NSFR) connections instead of the actual amount of non-testable  devices or methods at each NSFR connection.  At the time of the sanitary survey, all methods had been inspected, however, the BPCCC tracking sheet did not have inspections dates listed for all methods, therefore the supplier could not demonstrate that it achieved an annual backflow method inspection compliance ratio of 0.90.  To resolve this violation, the Town of Walsh will submit an updated BPCCC program, outlining how we will achieve compliance with the annual backflow method inspection ratio.  We will also send an updated survey and inspection documentation along with an updated annual report.

  • Uncontrolled cross connections can lead to a back pressure or siphonage event that may allow contaminants or disease-causing organisms to enter the drinking water, which can cause diarrhea, nausea, cramps, and associated headaches.

What does this mean? What should I do?

  • There is nothing you need to do at this time. If a situation arises where the water is no longer safe to drink, you will be notified within 24 hours.

We anticipate resolving these problems by May 31, 2023. For more information, please contact Dennis Carlson at walshsuper@gmail.com or 719-324-5411, or

Steps We Are Taking

R518 - Monitoring, Recordkeeping and Data Verification:  Total Coliform Sites Not Representative.  This is a violation of Regulation 11.

 August 19, 2023

At the time of the sanitary survey, the Town of Walsh had been performing monthly total coliform sampling; however, we did not have any sample sites representing the distribution system located across Highway 160 in the Holt Thompson Subdivision, which is a violation of Regulation 11.  To resolve this violation, the Town of Walsh will establish total coliform sites that cover all areas of the distribution system including the distribution system located on the north side of Highway 160.  Once the new sampling sites are designated, we will monitor total coliform in accordance with Section 11.

We are required to monitor your drinking water for specific contaminants on a regular basis. Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether or not our drinking water meets health standards. During the inspection it was identified that we did not complete all monitoring/testing, were not monitoring correctly, or were monitoring at an inappropriate location. Therefore we cannot be sure of the drinking water quality during that time.

What does this mean? What should I do?
