Drinking Water Public Notices, April 25, 2023

A sanitary survey conducted on the Town of Walsh Public Drinking Water System on March 24, 2023 identified two violations requiring public notification.  The notices, which were also mailed to customers with their April utility bills, can be read here

Nitrate Sampling

Drinking Water WarningTown of Walsh has Elevated Level of Nitrate:  DO NOT GIVE THE WATER TO INFANTS UNDER 6 MONTHS OLD OR USE IT TO MAKE INFANT FORMULA.  The 2022 4th quarter water sample results received October 14, 2022 showed nitrate levels of 10.8 milligrams per liter (mg/L). This is above the nitrate maximum contaminant level (MCL) of 10 mg/L. Nitrate in drinking water is a serious health concern for infants less than six months old.

A reverse osmosis water fill station designed to provide water in compliance with the drinking water standard has been installed on the south side of Walsh Town Hall at 401 North Colorado Street to fill containers for drinking water and cooking.  The cost for water from the fill station is $0.06 per liter.

Update:  The 2023 1st quarter water sample results received January 23, 2023 showed nitrate levels of 9.4 milligrams per liter (mg/L).  This is below the Nitrate Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) of 10 mg/L.  Nitrate levels can fluctuate throughout the year so high levels may be a recurring problem.

The 2023 2nd quarter water sample results received April 26, 2023 showed nitrate levels of 10.0 milligrams per liter (mg/L).  This is equal to the Nitrate Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) of 10 mg/L.  Nitrate levels can fluctuate throughout the year so high levels may be a recurring problem.

Update:  The 2023 1st quarter sample result received on February 9, 2023 for Combined Radium was 4 pCi/L, which is below the Maximum Contaminant Level for Combined Radium.  All quarterly samples for Combined Radium received since February 10, 2022 have been below the Maximum Contaminant Level, resulting in the Average Compliance Value for the last four quarters also remaining below the Maximum Contaminant level of 5 pCi/L for Combined Radium.  Combined Radium levels can fluctuate so higher levels may may recur.
